Clay faced precast is the embedment of clay products such as brick, ceramic tile, porcelain, and terra cotta into precast concrete at the precast plant. Precast panels with inlayed clay products have been in use for over 50 years and have eliminated the need for tuckpointing or sealing the brick. The use of thin brick also simplifies details and eliminates the moisture penetration concerns of conventional brick construction. Plant production provides a high level of dimensional precision and quality control as well as year round production and installation. The contract documents should clearly define the scope of clay product sizes, coursing patterns, and placement locations.
